Barre, Run, Repeat

Today I went to barre and took a rest day from running. This week I had a great mix of runs and barre classes. Monday I had an AWESOME barre class focusing on arms and abs, it really was a great new routine and fun group. Next I fit in two other runs besides my threshold run Wednesday. It was a good mix of paces, running friends and cross training. I squeezed in one last barre class last minute on Friday before scrambling to get my daughter ready for her Daddy Daughter Dance. It was a solid week, now to deal with losing an hour this weekend!!!

Barre and 7 Miles

Today I went for a run after an awesome morning barre class. I have to admit my barre streak took a hit in January. Tapering and Recovering from running the A1A Marathon prevented me from getting my barre routine solidified after the holiday. Luckily I like to think February is when the new year really starts. I just celebrated my birthday, I’m setting new running goals and getting back into routine. February at Inline Barre is their big promotional month and lots of newbies fill classes. This morning was no exception. There is nothing more empowering than a packed room of females of all shapes, sizes, and athletic abilities there to better themselves. Due to the packed room, we did lots of work at the barre and despite what you might think – it was intense! After class I took to the hilly roads of Perry Hall and ran on tired legs. Thankfully no long runs this weekend and no crazy training runs – just a fun run. A successful fitness Saturday and a perfect start to the weekend.

Double Thursday

Today I went for a run after school and barre class at night. It was an extremely windy day as I laced up for an after school run. The morning news warned of gust clocked at 40mph and there I was battling the wind. I battled the wind head on and then rode it out when it favored my direction. At one point a car lingered at a stop sign and I was convinced they were watching me getting tossed around and stopped as I was being pushed towards a curb. I finished my five miles and then went to make a quick dinner for the family before barre. We had a substitute instructor, which was a great change of pace. Lunges, squats, heel lifts and planks. A perfect Thursday and way to move into Friday and a three day weekend.

Jan 1st 2020

Today I went for a run and celebrated the new year with barre class. I slept 8n, made the kids breakfast before lacing up for a quick run. I really wanted to get to my barre class at 10:15, so I only ended up doing two and a half miles.

I quickly changed and was off to barre. It’s been almost a year since I picked up barre and tried something new. What an incredible experience this has been! Barre has helped me gain strength in my legs, confidence in my skin and just a great way to interact with other strong females. Barre class gives me a group atmosphere that is fun and up lifting. It really is a change of pace to be lunging, planking and squattig in impossible positions, but comforting that your in it together. I’m glad I leaped and picked up barre. It was a great new years resolution to try something new. Now… new goals…

All we hear is Radio Ga Ga…

Today I went for a run in Maryland for 6 easy recovery miles. I slept in and laced up at eight o’clock in hopes of getting my recovery miles done before heading to barre. Hills, humidity and heat is what Maryland should be known for!!! I jammed out to Queen and got moving up and down the rolling hills where I live. It was muggy, but I took it easy and got done with my run with time to clean up before barre. As I ran I listened to Radio Ga Ga twice because a lyric caught my attention.

That was exactly my week in running!!! I get this song is not about running, but it made me laugh and finish my recovery run no longer defeated by my tough long run the previous day. Now, off to barre!! (Time to get back into a barre routine!!!)

Wednesday Doubles

Today I went for a run and saw a beautiful, pink sunrise early in the morning. Even though softball has come to an end, my week is still jammed with baseball, the dentist, and parent visits so an early morning run it is! First how crazy is it that I ran this morning and it was only 59 degrees!? It was a beautiful view with a cool breeze on my shoulders. Maryland weather in June is never the same and this year it has been surprisingly cooler, which is fine by me! Later in the evening I made it to barre class which was great, but irritated my IT band during some lunges. Baseball and a trip to NJ are in the cards for the rest of the week.

Double Up

Today I went for a run and squeezed in a barre class in the afternoon. First, what a picture perfect morning! A sliver of the moon was shining along the horizon when we began our run. In no time the sun crept into the sky sending pink and purple ripples through the low clouds. It was a great way to start the day. After work, I ran to pick up rescue plants from Lowes. When I got home I quickly decided to squeeze in a barre class before dinner. Great way to start and end a Friday.

Barre Beat Me Up

Today I went for a run after school ended and before we headed up to NJ for Presidents’ Day weekend! Afternoon runs are usually sluggish for me, but I really felt like I was barely moving! My barre class Wednesday had me working my quads, hip flexors, and glutes for 45 minutes, all while wearing leg weights!!! I feel like I rode a horse across the country, jumped off and I’m trying to walk ‘casually’ and ‘play it cool’ with little success. This could be a disaster as I take on the hills of NJ for my runs this weekend.

Happy ♥️ Day

Today I went for a run with the guys on Valentine’s Day in my new Cupid’s Crush Hat! It was a super chilly morning and the run consisted of me dodging ice in the darkness. I was hoping to do some hill work, but the ice and stiffness from barre held me back. It has been one week since I started Barre and I was able to get in 4 classes! (Without snow days I’d probably would have only taken 2 classes) I am pretty excited about this new fitness adventure and seeing how it helps with my running!

(My kick butt shirt that my sister got me for Christmas that I wore to barre last night!)

Snow Day, Sleet and a Run

Today I went for a run with the guys battling sleet and freezing rain. We had a snow day today and it was pretty slick. We were able to get an afternoon run in using side roads since most sidewalks had not been cleared. Later I went to another Barre class that was pretty intense and fast paced. I tried to keep up, but was ok laughing at myself as I switched moves and shook on my unstable legs. Try new things and keep showing up!
