Rainy Squad Run

Today I went for a run on a rainy, Thursday morning. Have you ever thought running in the rain must equal double the miles!? Sure do!!! Today was actually not a terrible run in the rain due to the warmer 63 degree weather. All was great until the last half mile of our run turned into a windy force of nature that felt like a slap in the face. Still it was great to get out and move before colder weather rolls in and November temperatures return.

Back at it…

Today I went for a run after three days off. My hips and hamstrings have been tight. I think this virtual teaching is really getting to me despite having an adjustable desk. I managed to get my run in before the rain and school day started, but boy was it humid! I tried to shake off the rust by varying paces to see if maybe my stiffness was due to a pretty even, non varying pace on my last few runs. Regardless I was less stiff, happy to beat the rain and ready to take on hump day! Now to get back to training for 40×40!

Misty Miles and Thoughts

Today I went for a run before school with the guys. It was a pretty misty, foggy morning and I planned to start with the guys separate for three quick miles and then finish up the last few miles with them. It was perfect timing and I caught up with them for our last two miles back. I’m holding onto my three speedy miles a week! Lately life has been busy, but on my way to work this morning, as I battled foggy traffic, Bruce Springsteen came on the radio. It was just one of those moments when the soundtrack of your life plays while you’re deep in thought, reviewing your to do list for the day. My City of Ruins played out on the radio and the lyrics repeated, “with these hands…” and I kinda laughed to myself. Here I was thinking about my role at school, duties and tasks that needed to be accomplished for the day and Bruce was here singing to me. I had a solid run this morning and I was ready for the day. Oh what you can accomplish when you listen, reflect and act. Game on. “With these hands, I pray for the strength, with these hands… Come on Rise Up, Come on Rise Up.”

Tuesday School Group Run

Today I went for a run after school with the school group. It was classic Maryland weather that conflicted with all the weathermen and reports. Despite the promise of rain being out if the area by noon, it was misting on us for our regular Tuesday run. It has become a running joke (no pun intended) that on Tuesday Group Run, it rains. Luckily, no one ditched, we had a solid run and checked seven miles off to start the week!

NYRR Virtual 5k

Today I went for a run and completed my virtual 5k. Virtual races are fun because it’s easy to get to, usually a familiar course and no pressure! A brief window between rain showers allowed me just enough time to run through humid, misty weather. I did a one mile warm up and then picked it up. I didnt want to check my watch so I tried going comfortably fast for the first mile. Second mile I was in a groove and felt myself accelerating. Third mile I hung on, but felt myself drifting to a slower pace. I reached the car a little over four miles and bam.Never would I thought I was going that fast on a Friday afternoon after a busy day at school! I’ll take it!! But this did get me thinking. I jumped so quickly into marathons, maybe it would be cool to test out some shorter, faster races. I never thought of myself as a speedster, but it could be fun to try out some fast 5ks! It’s funny how you get into a one lane mindset and forget there are so many different paths.

Fridayyyyy!

Today I went for a rainy Friday morning run with the guys. Simple get up and go for a run kinda morning. With a busy day ahead it was a good morning to enjoy light hearted conversation despite the misty morning weather. After school I need to pack, get white softball pants for my daughter and get ready to make the hike up to New Jersey. Running down the shore might be some of my most enjoyable runs because where else can you hear Born to Run on every corner?! I’m ready to explore the Asbury Park Convention Center, feel the salty air in my hair and take in my home state vibe!

Run Meh

Today I went for a run and got in some miles after taking it easy this week. This was a busy week and I was just too tired to run. My parents came into town Friday and left Saturday so I was happy to spend time with them at the expense of running. Also my leg was still a little stiff, maybe from my fall last week or the treadmill miles, so taking a break helped. Overall I got my miles in after church and then got to take my daughter to DC for some girl time. Bam.

13 Misty Miles

Today I went for a run getting in a Taco Bell Harbor Half with the girls. The rainy, snowy overnight mix hung around and forced us to push through a damp first half of our run. Despite the dreary weather, we finished 13 miles while enjoying our conversation and a few good laughs along the way. Running in wet socks, in damp weather, in cold winds or in less than ideal conditions usually forces one to question why they are out there in the first place. Just remember — “If you wait for perfect conditions, you’ll never get anything done.” Ecclesiates 11:4 — so what are you waiting for?

RRCA Maryland Club Challenge

Today I went for a run in the RRCA Maryland 10 miler Club Challenge with the Baltimore Road Runners Club. The course was down in Columbia and was packed with lots of hills!!! Me and my friend ran with the BRRC and successfully conquered the hills at an easier pace than normal in order to save the legs. I’m not going to lie – it was 37 degrees, pouring rain and the hills reminded me that sometimes your glutes and hamstrings can only take so much. I’m happy to report my fingers have thawed out, I got my 10 miles done for the week, checked off my first week of half marathon training and I’m ready to head into the month of March!

Friday Misty Miles

Today I went for a run with the guys on our usual 5am route. The weather changed and we got in six misty miles before a very busy Friday. This weekend I am looking forward to my second barre class on Saturday and a hilly five mile race, Cupids Crush, with the Baltimore Road Runners Club (BRRC) on Sunday.

Last night I met with my book club and we discussed how great the experience has been thus far; however, what resonated most was the idea of setting aside time from a busy schedule to try new things. My barre adventure has been fun, but I’m looking forward to kick starting training for the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler and NJ Half Marathon!
