Harbor 12

Today I went for a run in the Inner Harbor and got in twelve great miles. It seems like forever since I’ve been downtown – at least early December. Today I did my longest consecutive miles since my marathon. I’m not going to lie, I was slow moving towards the end, but nonetheless happy to be out there! I met up with the guys downtown and we immediately got moving. We were on a mission to get to Fells Point around 8am to meet up with two other friends. Perfect timing! We looped around Bond Street Warf and towards the Sandlot where we met up with our tag alongs. It was great! We continued along the harbor towards the downtown area before looping back out towards Key Highway. The sun was up and it warmed things up quickly!!! We chatted about trivia, tv series, netflix and all things funny.

Once we made it to the Domino factory we took a quick photo before heading back on the same route. We dropped off our friends around 9am and made our way back finishing at 9:30am.  Perfect timing for me to get back, cleaned up and off to Barre. It was great running with a few new people and back in a familiar route. I was also pretty impressed that I was still able to do my lunges, squats and band work after those miles. We all agreed, these miles were a lot more enjoyable together than solo. This pandemic has been tough and human interaction limited. Although running with face coverings in the city was a challenge, it was worth it to be able to interact with others again. I even got to check off running with someone new from my Run 40 Throw Down list!

Cold Squad Run

Today I went for a run in chilly, cold weather. The great debate today was hat or gloves!? If you could only have one to run in, what would it be!? I even asked my class today what they thought. They overwhelmingly agreed gloves were better than hats, hands down. I wore both this morning for our morning run with feels like temps hanging around 21 degrees. At the end of the day having a Squad Run to keep you motivated to get out the door with or without gloves really is the winner.

Tempo Thursday

Today I went for a run to do speedwork with the guys! It was tough getting outta bed! I’m not sure about you, but the temps are dropping and I am in that awkward ‘not sure how to dress’ phase. Today was a chilly 28 degrees, but luckily no wind – tall socks were a go. We did our two mile warm up and then jumped into our 6x5min repeats. I havent done many group speedwork runs, but this was fun and a better way to stay motivated and strong throughout the run. Of course conversation turned from 70s rock bands to camal spiders, school, podcasts and formula one quickly. What are the craziest things you have talked about? I can only imagine a pretty funny book could be published. And then, bam – nine miles done just like that!

Rainy Squad Run

Today I went for a run on a rainy, Thursday morning. Have you ever thought running in the rain must equal double the miles!? Sure do!!! Today was actually not a terrible run in the rain due to the warmer 63 degree weather. All was great until the last half mile of our run turned into a windy force of nature that felt like a slap in the face. Still it was great to get out and move before colder weather rolls in and November temperatures return.

Teacher Squad

Today I went for a run before school. Sometimes running with the people you work with is just what you need. We didn’t talk teaching, nor drama of who did what…. we just talked history and politics! This might be a big part of what I miss about school. (besides teaching students in a classroom, obviously.) I miss the nerdy history content conversations that teachers really do have during lunch breaks. We caught up over four miles and then settled into virtual meetings, PD and small group instruction. Can’t beat that start to your day.
