NJ Runs

Today I went for a five mile run after looping five miles the night before at my parents house. My parents sold my childhood home almost three years ago. I miss the quiet, scenic roads that lead to my old home. Since then my parents downsized and moved to the neighboring town, still in a quiet area. There are rolling hills, scenic farmlands, and a foggy, forest filled side of a reservoir that surround the new neighborhood. In addition to the new views – streetlamps and a sidewalk. I will be the first to admit that it is too dark to run at night, even with a headlamp on the rolling hills out here. However, my parents new neighborhood has streetlamps and is a perfect .63 loop made for procrastinators and night runs. Yesterday I looped the neighborhood eight times with Shawn for a great five miles and then took to the hills this morning for a balmy five miles. The best of both worlds!

Heat Wave Continues

Today I went for a run in 100% humidity and 78 degrees starting temps. Despite my somewhat early start (only 7am) the air was thick and muggy from the previous day’s thunderstorms and current 4 day heatwave. I laced up for a run early because I was unable to get a run in yesterday due to the afternoon storms, so I gave up my chance to sleep in. Luckily the sun was rising, but a few clouds hung around giving me a partly cloud run with some shade. There have been a lot of article posted online lately about the effects of heat/humidity on training runs and the best advice I have found is: drink water before, during, after and listen to your body. In this heat if your body is just not that into it – stop! There is always another day, so don’t risk it!

Friday the 12th – Just Another Day

Today I went for a run with the guys around Honeygo. Its Friday, summer, early morning and just an average run before work. Yesterday we had terrible storms blow through the area causing flash flooding. Despite the massive storms, 100% humidity remained and we ran through some sticky air. I’m pretty excited about the upcoming weekend. Tomorrow is the Barre Block Party and I hope to take in two thirty minute classes at the outdoor party. I also hope we get a trip in to DC! Something really exciting is that I found a new running adventure I want to run!

Business As Usual

Today I went for a run before another busy day at school and book club at night. Business as usual today, getting up to run at 5am with the guys. I wasn’t going to join in, but decided to join in after a sleepless night. The mornings are starting to get muggy and temperatures are warming up. Summer with soon be here; including, marathon training in the heat. I better continue enjoying the down time before that humid, hot long runs begin! I already did Barre on Tuesday and Wednesday and might try to get a third day in this week! Wish me luck!

Busy Saturday

Today I went for a 4 mile run despite a busy Saturday packed with school work, sports, haircuts and yardwork. I’m not sure about you, but once spring hits, my calendar is split between softball, baseball, my husband’s high school baseball season and end of year school activites. After getting home mid day I went for a run up to the softball fields to see my daughters softball practice. I also got to try out my new Bmore Goodr shades while enjoying the perfect, sunny weather which will be around for the Cherry Blossom 10 miler tomorrow! It was one of those runs when you pass tons of runners – young, old, men, women, those running with dogs, others pushing jogging strollers – and love the community that supports such a healthy atmosphere.

Spring Flowers

Today I went for a run on a Friday, after a busy day at school. When the weather is perfect like today all you can think is, “Yay it’s finally the weekend!!!!” After my friend bailed on our after school run I decided to try and get four miles done even though it was tempting to hang out back. I mean haven’t I been lazy enough lately!? It was perfect weather, I had Queen and the Allman brothers along for the ride and now I’m ready for a quick trip home to NJ this weekend!

Ever notice how many types of dafadils there are!? I must have passed six different types today.

Perfect Sunny-day

Today I went for a run with Shawn on a picture perfect day! I iced my leg after yesterday’s run and today took to the backroads of Kingsville with Shawn. Although I stopped to take pictures and had a dog jumping on me attempting to tag along, I finished with only a dull ache in my IT band. The day was pretty, picture perfect and I was happy to enjoy some run time with Shawn. Maybe Spring is finally here to stay – one of my favorite times to run each year!

Whhhyyyyyy

Today I went for a run for the first time since Sunday. My IT band has revolted against me running for two weeks now and shows no end in sight. I took the week off from running and got in three days of barre and two days on the rowing machine. Today I finally went out for an easy four miles and although my leg was sore, there was no burning/stabbing pain. It was a perfect, super windy day and after not running for a week it felt amazing to hit the road – even if it was only four miles. (After my low miles week how appropriate was my fortune tonight when we went out to dinner at our favorite place in Chinatown/DC)

Longest Day

Today I went for a run in the early hours before a super busy day. I didn’t realize how cold the run was until I got home and my hands could hardly move to shampoo my hair. School was busy followed by barre class and then my son had a soccer game. The highlight of my day was being able to pick up my custom made tumbler from my friend!!! I love the quote and all the sparkles!!!

More Treadmiles

Today I went for a run after barre class. Call me a wimp, but it has been too cold to run outside lately. So today I had a solid barre class which kicked my butt. Second I hopped on the treadmill at home to get in five easy miles. I’ve been pretty sore lately in the same leg, maybe it’s the treadmill playing mindgames. Glad I got it done…. just keep showing up!
