Sunday Long Run on Vacation

Today I went for a run in Williamsburg and looped 12 miles before a great day with family. I set my alarm so I could start my run at 6am, unfortunately now that it is the third day of summer vacation sleeping is starting to sound better. When you are on vacation there is a fine line between sleep/vacation activities and running. How do you juggle a packed day of walking around parks, historic areas, and family time with still getting in a quick, I mean, long run!? Well you just have to suck it up or find a really cool place to run. To me Williamsburg is pretty cool!

I hit the road at 6:30am and had two hours to get in a long run. I looped around the colonial area to check out the sun streaming through the buildings and reflecting on the old glass windows. I began to run down Jamestown Road in hopes of making my way to historic Jamestown; however, the sidewalk ended and the busy road did not have a wide enough shoulder to run. I made my way back through the William & Mary College campus and then back to the historic area. I managed to finish 12.3 miles and hit the road at 8:30 in order to get back to the family. Mission Accomplished! After I cleaned up we packed up the family to tour around the historic area and relive the footsteps of the revolution in Virginia.

Tuesday Motivated by the Police

Today I went for a run after a pretty nasty head cold kicked my butt. Yesterday was an awesome day, even though my sinuses were throbbing, it was graduation day! High school graduation was a success and my daughters 5th Grade Farwell was tearful too. Needless to say, no run on Monday! So I took to the road to see if running four miles would work even with a stuffy nose and cough. Luckily I had a perfect, sunny day accompanied by The Police. Don’t stand… Don’t stand so…

Fantastic Friday

Today I went for a run, early in the morning on my second to last Friday of the school year!!! This week I was able to get three barre classes in before my second run of the week. The days are becoming longer and filled with more end of year activites – softball playoffs, baseball playoffs, end of year parties, graduation, 5th Grade Farewell, end of year picnics and field trips. Early morning runs are proving to be most helpful with a busy schedule. Today we had a coaches party and a carnival leading into another busy weekend. Tomorrow I take on plogging! Wish me luck! Cheers to good weather and a fun weekend!

Global Running Day!!!

Today I went for a run in honor of Global Running Day. I know our calendar is filled with crazy holidays that celebrate groundhogs, pranks, flags and ice cream, but where did this one come from!? I did a little research and found out the “holiday” originated in 2009 as National Running Day. It changed names and in 2016 the first Global Running Day was held across the world as 2.5 million pledged to run 9.2 million miles. Today running groups, running enthusiasts, non-runners, new runners, old runners and even walkers take part in this day making sure to clog everyone’s social media with their participation.

Overall I hope you get out to enjoy the beautiful spring weather, possible company from a friend, and taking part in a global community who hopes for a healthier future.

(A repost of my favorite running quote I shared early this year….because it never gets old and speaks to the true spirit of running!)

Double Up

Today I went for a run and squeezed in a barre class in the afternoon. First, what a picture perfect morning! A sliver of the moon was shining along the horizon when we began our run. In no time the sun crept into the sky sending pink and purple ripples through the low clouds. It was a great way to start the day. After work, I ran to pick up rescue plants from Lowes. When I got home I quickly decided to squeeze in a barre class before dinner. Great way to start and end a Friday.

Business As Usual

Today I went for a run before another busy day at school and book club at night. Business as usual today, getting up to run at 5am with the guys. I wasn’t going to join in, but decided to join in after a sleepless night. The mornings are starting to get muggy and temperatures are warming up. Summer with soon be here; including, marathon training in the heat. I better continue enjoying the down time before that humid, hot long runs begin! I already did Barre on Tuesday and Wednesday and might try to get a third day in this week! Wish me luck!

Fridayyyyy!

Today I went for a rainy Friday morning run with the guys. Simple get up and go for a run kinda morning. With a busy day ahead it was a good morning to enjoy light hearted conversation despite the misty morning weather. After school I need to pack, get white softball pants for my daughter and get ready to make the hike up to New Jersey. Running down the shore might be some of my most enjoyable runs because where else can you hear Born to Run on every corner?! I’m ready to explore the Asbury Park Convention Center, feel the salty air in my hair and take in my home state vibe!

Thunderstorms – To Run or Not To Run

Today I went for a run after a morning of thunderstorms and rain. I never was a weather app person, but once you become a runner it becomes as necessary as your GPS watch. After giving up hope, we ran errands and went to visit my sister and family. Around 3pm there was finally a window where the sun came out, rain stopped and it became humid. I definetly battled with myself to get motivated and out the door. Like anyone I started to weigh the costs and benefits of whether to run. Positives – I get my last long run done, I feel better when I steal all the Easter candy from my kids tomorrow and I get a rainless run in. Negatives – it’s 3pm and I’m tired, there are so many hills, I haven’t eaten well or drank enough all day, I’m rushing because we delay dying Easter eggs because of me, and last we don’t get to go for ice cream at The Polar Cub. Let me tell ya, telling the kids the Polar Cub trip was off did not go over well, nor did making them wait to dye eggs. Sometimes juggling it all is tough, and sometimes the run just doesn’t happen. I’m happy I got my run in, we dyed eggs after dinner and we had ice cream from the freezer.

Fat Bottomed Girls You….

Today I went for a run after school on a perfect, sunny day around Honeygo. What an amazing day for a run despite staying late for coach class and missing opening day for the Orioles. In the end it was Queen’s Fat Bottom Girls for the win as I finished a solid 5 mile loop around Honeygo. It was one of those days when the music kept me light on my feet, I could breathe in the smell of spring and the sun warmed my face. I left school with a sense of accomplishment after helping a few seniors reach their graduation requirements, helping my 9th graders in coach class and ready to roll out our 9th grade HSA test prep on Tuesday. How could I not have a solid run!?

….. you make the rockin’ world gooooo round!

Spring Flowers

Today I went for a run on a Friday, after a busy day at school. When the weather is perfect like today all you can think is, “Yay it’s finally the weekend!!!!” After my friend bailed on our after school run I decided to try and get four miles done even though it was tempting to hang out back. I mean haven’t I been lazy enough lately!? It was perfect weather, I had Queen and the Allman brothers along for the ride and now I’m ready for a quick trip home to NJ this weekend!

Ever notice how many types of dafadils there are!? I must have passed six different types today.
