Tuesday Humidity

Today I went for a run with 80 degree temps and humidity in Williamsburg. I’m not sure how anyone in the 1700’s survived this heat and humidity because it was pretty thick this morning. Shawn and I made our loop around Williamsburg around 8am and the temperatures were already on the rise. Yesterday was a long day of walking so today I was not motivated to get out and get moving at an early time. Luckily Shawn joined me for the run and it turned out to be a great humid tour of the town before we headed over with the family.

Sunday Long Run on Vacation

Today I went for a run in Williamsburg and looped 12 miles before a great day with family. I set my alarm so I could start my run at 6am, unfortunately now that it is the third day of summer vacation sleeping is starting to sound better. When you are on vacation there is a fine line between sleep/vacation activities and running. How do you juggle a packed day of walking around parks, historic areas, and family time with still getting in a quick, I mean, long run!? Well you just have to suck it up or find a really cool place to run. To me Williamsburg is pretty cool!

I hit the road at 6:30am and had two hours to get in a long run. I looped around the colonial area to check out the sun streaming through the buildings and reflecting on the old glass windows. I began to run down Jamestown Road in hopes of making my way to historic Jamestown; however, the sidewalk ended and the busy road did not have a wide enough shoulder to run. I made my way back through the William & Mary College campus and then back to the historic area. I managed to finish 12.3 miles and hit the road at 8:30 in order to get back to the family. Mission Accomplished! After I cleaned up we packed up the family to tour around the historic area and relive the footsteps of the revolution in Virginia.

Greetings From Williamsburg

Today I went for a run through historic Williamsburg with Shawn. Ever since we arrived I have been dying to get over to the historic area, so taking a run around it seemed like a great way to welcome ourselves to town. Shawn tagged along and we parked on a side street nearby and made our way over to the Governor’s Palace through a side trail.

The historic area opens at 9am, so with our 8:45am start it was pretty quiet around town except for colonial interpreters moving to their areas. We looped around the historic area and made our way to the William & Mary College campus. Memories of our visit in 2012 for the Freedom Run Half Marathon came rushing back, a race which is no longer held, but was a great course through the historic town and backwoods area.

I scouted out the area looking for a good route in preparation for my long run tomorrow. I’m not quite sure about a planned route, but excited to loop the historic area again and maybe venture towards Jamestown.

First Day of Summer!!!

Today I went tor a run on the first day of summer!!! Today is the longest day of the year, yet I still got up to hit the road by 6:15am in order to be ready for our road trip to Williamsburg!

I looped around the neighborhood and made my way to the track. It seems like I haven’t ran “fast” since Memorial Day weekend, so it was time to pick up the pace in hopes getting back into marathon training won’t be a slap in the face. As I looped the track I was met by others who were out there getting it done despite the early hour and enjoying the beginning of the longest day of the year. One women was keeping a brisk paced walk leaving one to believe her swinging hand weights and attached ankle weights were light as feathers. Another man took the loops slow and steady without hesitation while another older man looped the track and proceeded to loop the exterior of the school property on repeat. Another couple jumped on the track for two loops from an exterior trail with their jogging stroller and toddler cheering them on, “Go, go, go!” The best part about running is there is no official pace, no set direction or route and no age requirement. Just run and enjoy the environment you are actively taking part in and the people joining you on the journey.

Wednesday Goals

Today I went for a run solo and ended the day with a great barre class. Today was a plain old, regular Wednesday with an early morning run, work and barre class. More importantly it’s almost time to start planning out the fall run schedule. In October I’ll be running my 10th Marine Corps Marathon which will also mark the anniversary of my first marathon! Now I need to figure out if there is anything else I want to add into the mix besides The Rehoboth Seashore Marathon in December…. always a fun race! Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to run with Team Ultra again, but if not there are other great races to check out! I’m always up for a new state and new adventure!

1st Day of Summer!!! (School Calendar year)

Today I went for a run in humid, muggy weather. The alarm woke me this morning and left me dazed and confused. Today is the first day of summer vacation and the alarm felt like a bad April Fool’s Day joke. After it took me a few minutes to collect my thoughts, I realized despite summer vacation I was still working summer PD days at school. Shawn and I laced up and completed our six miles together enjoying a rare, quiet run together. It may have been 110% humidity and the first day of summer vacation, but I’m still glad we laced up and completed our run before heading into school.

Father’s Day Run

Today I went for a run before anyone in the house woke up. Today is Father’s Day and I got up to get in eleven miles before our trip back to Maryland. The sun began to break through, but eventually overcast skies dominated most of my run until the very end. No complaints with that because the humidity hung around after the showers from the night before. It was a hilly loop, but overall peaceful run.

I think my mission is to convince as many people possible that New Jersey is far from being an over populated city. I took to the road and climbed the rolling hills and took in the awesome views that are often taken for granted. Too much is taken for granted and I’m glad running allows my my mind to run, reflect and appreciate the things that I might easily dismiss. Father’s Day is a great day to slow down and thank the dads in our lives. The toilet plunging experts, tool box bestowers, playing catch pros and overall life spectator who might not be the most vocal parent – but often most reasonable. I’m thankful to find a special person who is an amazing father to Garrett and Abigail. And that’s something I shouldn’t easily dismiss. Cheers to all the dads!

Saturday in NJ

Today I went for a run in NJ with a cool temperature of 54 and a side of beautiful rolling hills. It was one of those morning when the sun streams through every branch, highlights the leaves and the silhouette of the trunk runs into its shadow. Today was a busy day filled with my God daughter’s first birthday and my parents fifty first anniversary. As I ran The Allman Brothers played reminding me how a beautiful day, a good guitar jam and a piano solo can effortlessly move you over the rolling hills of NJ. Today was going to be a great day, fueled be an amazing run and well spent time with family.

Wednesday Doubles

Today I went for a run and saw a beautiful, pink sunrise early in the morning. Even though softball has come to an end, my week is still jammed with baseball, the dentist, and parent visits so an early morning run it is! First how crazy is it that I ran this morning and it was only 59 degrees!? It was a beautiful view with a cool breeze on my shoulders. Maryland weather in June is never the same and this year it has been surprisingly cooler, which is fine by me! Later in the evening I made it to barre class which was great, but irritated my IT band during some lunges. Baseball and a trip to NJ are in the cards for the rest of the week.

Tuesday Motivated by the Police

Today I went for a run after a pretty nasty head cold kicked my butt. Yesterday was an awesome day, even though my sinuses were throbbing, it was graduation day! High school graduation was a success and my daughters 5th Grade Farwell was tearful too. Needless to say, no run on Monday! So I took to the road to see if running four miles would work even with a stuffy nose and cough. Luckily I had a perfect, sunny day accompanied by The Police. Don’t stand… Don’t stand so…
